Temple Emanuel Religious School Programs
Preschool and Kindergarten
Students and parents meet twice / month in a parent led group. This
less formal structure accommodates the varying degrees of maturity
of preschoolers as well as allowing the parents to form a "chevra"
with the families who will be moving through religious school
together.
1st and 2nd grades
Students meet in a traditional classroom setting Saturdays,
9:30-12:00am where the focus is on holidays, Bible and introduction
to AlefBet. Art projects, cooking, and singing are emphasized.
3rd - 6th grades
Students meet on Sundays, 9:30 - 12:00. They attend a 1 hour class
in Hebrew instruction, one hour class in Judaic studies and 1/2 hour
of Enrichment Activities/ alternating with Asephah (assembly with
the Rabbi)
Current enrichment activities
The
enrichment period provides the opportunity to focus on various
topics in a less formal, more "hands on" manner.
This year, during each 4 week cycle, the children have 1 song
session with the Rabbi, 1 week of Jewish literature or poetry, and 2
weeks focussing on the 350th anniversary of Jews in America. Each grade has studied individuals in differing periods
in American Jewish History, and has shared what they have
learned in plays, song, movies and poetry during school wide
assemblies.
4th - 6th grade
Students also attend Wednesday afternoons, 4:30 - 6:00pm. They meet
for 1 hour of Hebrew language instruction, and 1 hour of student led
Tefillah (prayer service), and Parashat HaShavua ( weekly Torah
portion)
Seventh grade
Students have small group Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparations on Monday or
Tuesday afternoons, as well as meeting as a class with Rabbi Farbman
on Wednesdays, 4:30 -6:00.
